It’s all about you…
Drives me crazy. National news reports are filled with doom and gloom about real estate. When did it become appropriate to take a personal, specific transaction and lump it together with every other transaction? In this area alone there all sorts of neighborhoods, home styles and mini-economies. If you live and work here, do you believe that there is no difference between a townhouse in Georgetown and townhouse in Germantown?
Of course you don’t. Now to read the Post or listen to any of the talking heads, you might become convinced that the roller coaster pricing in California does impact you here. As they say in the NFL, after further review, California has nothing to do with any of the local neighborhoods.
You hear about the sub-prime loan crisis and think, wow, that sure puts buying a home in jeopardy. Really, the only way you are impacted is if you are in the same bad credit and short on common sense boat that the earlier sub-prime borrowers occupied. In a perverse fashion, the sub-prime mess and the no doc loan mess and the jumbo loan scrutiny has made more money available to anyone seeking a conforming loan.
You see, the stuff on t.v. and the stuff in the newspapers is all about circulation and creating advertising revenue for the news sources. Bad news sells and facts can be what you make them. When you hear your situation lumped in with the rest of the area or the rest of the country. It’s a damn lie.
You are an individual and if you sit down with a naked realtor, you will find out where you fit in the scheme of things. Knowledge is power and the sooner you acquire knowledge, the sooner you will ignore the hype and understand your strengthes and weaknesses as a home buyer or seller.
Have a question? Write to the naked realtor, all communication is personal and private.
